I debated about whether to do a 9/11 post or not; every year around this time we're all but inundated with what I call propaganda. Everyone wants to talk about where they were, or how much they hate the President, or just how sad it all is. Especially here in New York. And some of that is valid, but, in the end, well-intentioned but poorly recieved. I don't claim to know what it must feel like to be directly involved in that day. I can't even pretend that I can sympathize with the fear, the pain, the anger that surrounds those people still today. I'm from New York, but I don't attach myself to that day. I won't act like I'm part of some band of survivors that can overcome anything.

Yes, this happened to our country, and yes we all have the right to be angry, upset, confused…lots of things. I'm not even arguing that we all don't have the right to mourn. But this happened more directly to specific families, and how many of us can actually say we're mourning? How many of us should stop and reassess exactly what it is we're doing, saying, thinking? I think that, on this day at least, we should all let them do the talking. Let them do the mourning. We can be sympathetic, caring, and even helpful. But all of that revolves around us being quiet, and just listening. Then maybe, after our ears and hearts are full, then we can begin to stir. Then we can rise up and make some noise. But not for us. For them.
That's just what I think.
