You can’t even get a good abortion these days.

A friend pointed me in the direction of a news article recently about a Boston woman who is suing a couple of doctors for failing to rid her of an unwanted pregnancy. The staggering scope of stupidity in this woman’s decision is incomprehensible to me. Before anyone gets finger happy in responding about a woman’s right to choose, I am pro-choice. Having faced that situation head on as a teenager I’m in no position to judge one way or another. So my issue with this nutjob isn’t the abortion. The issue I have is with the fact that she’s a fucking money-seeking moron.
According to the story she had the procedure done by one doctor. A return visit to a second doctor weeks later did not indicate that she was pregnant and by all accounts the pregnancy had been terminated. She was free to live her life without that little financial burden.
Or was she?
Turns out, she wasn’t.
A later trip to the emergency room for what she thought was pelvic pain revealed the abortion had been ineffectual.
Ruh-roh.
I suppose I'm slightly stumped as to how in the hell a 42 year old women wouldn't know she was pregnant. Then again, through her subsequent actions she has proven that she may not have all her cogs working properly so perhaps that's a moot point.
I understand her being pissed about a botched procedure - be it an abortion or appendectomy. I’d be pissed, too. If I’m to fork over money (especially big time money) for services rendered then those services better damn well be to my satisfaction. If that service fails to meet my expectations then I have every right to demand compensation. But we’re not talking about a botched hair cut or shitty dinner service here. We’re talking about an abortion and in consequence, a child.
The premise for her lawsuit is based on claims that she could not afford to have a child (couldn’t afford a rubber either, apparently) and that’s the reason she chose to terminate. HOWEVER (and here comes her fucking moron beacon), she didn’t have to keep the child. The article states that she is “seeking the costs of raising her child”. So, she’s not just wanting them to pay for the cost of the birth (which would be understandable) or the pain and suffering she endured for the negligent abortion (again, understandable), but she’s seeking monetary compensation for raising the child. Seriously, what the fuck? She made a choice to abort and yes, through no fault of her own, that didn’t go according to plan. Okay, fine. Ooopsy. But she had a second opportunity to rid herself of any child related burdens by choosing to give up the baby. She did not. If you ask me (and even if you don’t, I’m telling you), making the decision to keep that child placed the burden of the financial obligation on her, not those who failed to terminate the pregnancy.
Maybe I’m just a simpleton, but this entire situation boggles my mind. The child is already two and the mom is now embarking on legal suits that will, in all likelihood, take years. I’m no prodigal psychologist, but you know that poor little girl is going to have some serious issues with mommy dearest.
I wonder how Hallmark could jump on the financial enterprise with this one?
“I really wish I could wish you a happy birthday with glee,
But the truth is, I really wish you’d been sucked out of me”
Oh, oh, oh, or how about one for dear ol’ mom:
“Happy Mother’s Day Mom,
I just want you to know, that I know….
…I know that I wasn’t planned.
…I know that the abortion failed
…I know you see dollar signs in all that I do
Mom, I know that you resent me
….but just so you know, I resent you, too.
Hallmark, call me
